    I need to clean up the links on it then, lol! Thanks, I’d love feedback since I’m going to use this for a training in April. I have another site: http://howtoedublog.edublogs.org which shows how to set up a static blog that is more like a website. That might be a good start for folks dipping their toes in?

    Hi Alice…

    1. I took your workshop out at Granite Bay and I’m stuck on a couple of problems. I’m trying to set up part of my blog as a resource tool for getting material to the kids. I put together Study Guides, Test Prep sheets, etc. for their support. Because of their static nature, I would like to use Pages to include this stuff.

    Paste this http://garageblog.edublogs.org/ to get to my site and you’ll see what I mean. My intent has been to make a simple pdf of a handout and upload it to a page. Unfortunately when I do so, I end up with a link–not the actual pdf. In this particular case, I “categorized” the “Test Prep Unit 3: The Constitution” under the Parent Page 8th-US History. I end up with this awkward link-here-to-link-there-to-get-that arragement. If you click on Test Prep, Unit 3…, it comes up with another link. Can’t I do it so that when I click on Test Prep, the actual pdf comes up? Is there any way that I can just place the pdf image on the page so that clicking on the required link brings up the actual Test Prep sheet?

    2. I set up a number of other parent pages that don’t appear on the blog. Any idea why? Is it because I have yet to really write anything to those pages?

    Let me make sure I understand what you want to do, you would like to have the pdf accessible from the sidebar by clicking on a link to the pdf to come up, not a link to the page it’s on.

    I think what you want to do is create a link for the site. Go to Blogroll from the Dashboard page. at a link to the pdf file (http://garageblog.edublogs.org/files/2008/03/unit-3-test-prep-constitution.pdf), and title it Unit 3 Test Prep. A page is not someplace where a single file resides, but is just a static version of a post page that lives outside the chronological hierarchy of the rest of your blog. You’re trying to use pages as categories.. Instead, create a link in your blogroll and give it the category there (test prep), then add a link widget to the sidebar. Remember to clear out any links in the blogroll (like to inscub, edublogs, etc.) that you’d rather not have popping up on the side bar.

    As to the picture issue, hmm, a .pdf is not an image file, and will not be recognized as one by a web browser, etc. You could do a screen shot of the front page of your pdf, or if the pdf authoring tool allows it, save the page as a .jpg file. Then you would upload that file, and the pdf and you can use the image tool (the picture of a tree) to add the image. After you upload the jpg or image file, then send it to the post/page you are putting it on in the editor. Select it, then click on the link (chain) icon in the editor menu. You can change the link from the jpg to the pdf file, so that when students click on the jpg image, they call up the pdf.
